Shopping After The Mommy Makeover. November 2, 2009

WARNING: The following post is about SHOPPING and may cause nausea and/or drowsiness in men. Do not attempt to operate a motor vehicle or heavy equipment while reading this post.

Seriously, you may think it's a little silly that I would take the time to write about shopping, but I think you'll understand once you've read my story.

One of my girlfriends invited me out for her birthday and a girls night out. And ladies, you know how it is. Even if you haven't just transformed your body, there's never anything in your closet that you can wear, right? So I decided this would be a great excuse to go dress shopping. I was so excited to go put my new body into those cute clothes I could never wear with my old tummy.

We also know that men don't like to go shopping with us, right? But David was excited at the prospect of seeing my new body in some cute outfits so we grabbed the kids and headed to the mall. Maybe I'm naive, but I thought I'd find something pretty quickly. Not the case. Definitely not the case.

I picked out several dresses that were my "old" style, mostly empire waists. I thought, "I'll just get these in a smaller size". I tried on dress after dress but nothing worked. The dresses fit but they didn't show the new curves. Finding an outfit that fit right up top while flattering my flatter tummy was next to impossible. Ten stores and countless visits to the dressing room and I was absolutely disappointed. David and the kids tried hard to be patient but they were getting frustrated too. I love my children but going shopping as a family was a bad idea. We finally gave up and my post Mommy Makeover shopping trip was a bust.

So, only 2 days left before my shin-dig. The next day I had much better

luck. A shopping trip with my mom produced much better results. Blouses fit better and I even fit into a pair of size 6 jeans. Wow! We went to two stores. I found a great outfit in the first store, bought it and went to find a jacket in the second store. We went in and I didn't see a jacket that would work. My Mom found a dressy tank-top and jacket combo, I figured I would just try it on. I stepped out of the dressing room and a nice lady said, "Oh you look beautiful". SOLD!

We had a great time and I got the perfect outfit for the birthday party. I'll have to blog about that later.

What I realized and what I found out from a couple of girlfriends who had also had plastic surgery was that it's just a process. What styles used to fit me are different now, and that's a good thing! I now know what to bring in the dressing room and what to pass on. My frustration has turned to exhilaration and I am so excited to go shopping!

Sorry to hear about your frustration...I'm sure you'll have better luck finding new bras! ;) I was thinking about you the other day and had a question....How do you feel having something that's not part of your body in your body? Do you ever look at your breasts and think it's weird or is it just part of you now? I think you look fabulous!

Rebecca -
Every time I eat! I have spilled more stuff on my chest in the last four weeks that I ever thought I would! I also notice them when I am lying in bed and watching TV. I never had anything to look over before! It's all good though. I wouldn't change it for
the world.

Emily – I found your blog tonight while Googling about tummy tucks and pain pumps. I'm having a full abdominoplasty and hernia repair in less than two weeks. I have to thank you so much because your posts have really helped my anxiety about the whole thing! I'm going to have my husband read over them too. :)
